the other night my girlfriend and i sat down to watch a movie. don’t ask me what it was, i don’t remember. all i recall is being bombarded by heterosexuality (surprise!). granted, this experience is not rare or uncommon but it IS unpleasant (that’s why i run a lesbian blog, haha). there were no “sexually fluid” characters. the plot line centralized on a white heteronormativity - a crutch all too familiar to us.
and so i thought of section ii.
section ii is a company devoted to bettering the representation of queer women in popular culture. they’re currently working on what i like to call “lesbian netflix.” that means queer tv shows, movies, short films, standup comedy, etc. all in one place.
supporting section ii is invaluable to our community. i am tired of watching media that pretends we don’t exist. i am tired of the difficulty in locating access to lesbian films. i cannot stand watching television shows that rely solely on heteronormative “love plots.”
if we invest our money in expanding the quantity or quality of queer media, mainstream media is bound to hear our wont for better queer representation. support section ii. support the indie film companies producing lesbian films — REGARDLESS OF THEIR BUDGET (i’m talking to you, girlfriend). refuse to indulge in a story that denies your existence.
we’re here, we’re queer, and we want full equality and better representation…NOW! okay enjoy the video. rant over. ♥
also, SPEAKING OF QUEER MEDIA, i have a free access code to watch their first julie goldman special “lady gentleman” here! just enter the code “itjustgotbetter” and enjoy!!
